Ahhhhh! This is the week of the appliances. What a day it was! Tuesday we had the two furnace guys show up at 7:10 to start putting in the furnace. Then Scott and Richie, the construction guys came to finish the trim work. Then two electricians came to finish up all the wiring in the kitchen and porch. Then the plumber came to hook up the faucet. And THEN, the guys from Warren Stellian came to deliver all the appliances. They had to carry all the appliances through the front door- refrigerator, range, microwave and dishwasher. What a mess! Stuff and workers and the worker's stuff all over every where.
Look at the nice WHITE dishwasher!
Here's the new range and microwave. We suppose we could put Ginger's dish back in the old spot?
OR, would Ginger's dish look better in front the new WHITE refrigerator. We could put crushed ice in her water dish. :)
FINALLY, the workers were gone and we could put all of the food into our new frig! In order for them to haul away all our old appliances we had to put all the food in coolers. It was a hot day too. 95 degrees! The air conditoner could barely keep up with all the workers going in and out of the house.
Here's Sharon putting the new kitchen to the test with the first real meal, Tomato Basil Pasta. Yum!
Of coarse Ginger isn't the only one who needs a place to eat. We bought new table and chairs. And guess what???!! They're OFF-white! Also, notice the new pictures we haven't hung yet.
And here's the good old/new porch. AHHHH! No more bugs, no more bringing in the cushions, no more pulling the furniture to the center when it rains, no more washing out the porch in the spring, no more wrapping the furniture in plastic......wonder if we'll miss the good old days?

Remodeling Week #10
We missed a lot this past week. Because we were on vacation we didn't get to see the changes to the kitchen as they happened.
This is what we found when we got home.....
Look at the new floor. It looks different in person. Actually looks like tile but it's not.
Look at the new paint color. Almost looks like yellow, Dad. NOT!! Actually it's called 'Calm Air'.
This is the new 'subway' tile that goes behind the cooktop. We thought Holly would like it. What's it called Holly? Duh! It's a medallion. :)
How do they look? This is what we have been waiting for the longest. Screens! Now we can sit out on the porch with no bugs. Notice how they can be adjusted to go all the way up or all the way down.
These are all the views of the porch and deck. It ties into the house pretty well, don't ya think?
Our first meal in the new eating space. Nothing better than Broadway Pizza in the new kitchen. Grandma came to help celebrate and see Carolyn while she was home.
Ginger is checking out the new space to put her dish. Maybe it's too sunny??

Remodeling Week #9
Here's mom resting up from another week of remodeling. It's her new morning coffee spot too.
Here's Sharon making a smoothie for breakfast. No Paul, it is not alcoholic!
Monday morning-do you like the new countertop? Well guess what? They broke the granite countertop trying to load it on the truck. Dang!! Now we have to wait till they make another one.
Meet Jim the painter. He's really good. Looks just like Anderson Cooper on CNN!
Finally! Thursday they brought the new new new countertop. Took 6 big guys to carry it around the garage and up the steps of the deck, through the porch, through the dining room and into the kitchen. You can see why the other one broke on Monday. The big whole is the cutout for the sink.
See the new countertop?? Isn't it shiny. The last picture is of the guy drilling the holes for the faucet.
Dad thought the sheet rock was a mess. This is the painting mess. Everything is taped up with plastic, even the new countertop. Poor dad he still hasn't seen it.
We get lots of visitors looking at the remodel.
Ginger, not sure if this spot will work either.

Remodeling Week #8
No more mitten holder at the back door. :( Who remembers hanging their mittens here? We had to have it down low so Carolyn could reach.
Look at the new back door. Like the big window? Should mom be worried about drive by shootings?
Mom is still trying to claim this spot for her cooktop. Ginger still thinks it's where her dish will go. Hmmm? Who will win?
Beginnings of the new deck. While Sharon and mom were eating lunch in the back yard, Ginger fell off the porch and fell under the deck. Good thing we just happened to see her. She could have been under there for a LONG time. Where are her trainers?
The new deck....not white :( Good thing we got Ginger out from under it!!!
New cedar ceiling on the porch. Old is on the left, new is on the right. Which do you like better?
New walls on the porch. Guess what color they're going to be??? Hmmm? I wonder.

Our new oven. Like it? It's Sharon's convection oven that she won when she was on The Price is Right. It cooks chicken in 15 minutes. But it took us 30 because we kept blowing fuses.
Do you like our new table and chair set? (two tv trays put together) It's not easy being without a kitchen!Beginnings of the new deck. Remodeling Week #7
Carolyn, Mom changed her mind about the cooktop. She says a frying pan works just as good and then we will get more counterspace.
The cupboards are unpacked. See the ones already in on the far wall. The refrigerator will go in the big opening.
Ginger wants her bowl back where it used to be....but that's where the new stove will be (and the electric fry pan).......Mom and Ginger are arguing
Here's Richy( the same carpenter as the one who started the remodel) hanging Mom's cupboard. He looks likes he's standing up pretty straight. Ouch! Remember he was the one who too the siding off on Memorial Weekend.
Done. What do you think? It's another one of Mom's favorite things. It looks much prettier in the daytime. Below it, is where the dishwasher will go. And it will really wash dishes!!!
Next step is painting. Hmmmmm? What color? Frozen custard? Clam Chowder? Stable Hay? Cancun Sand? Ripe Wheat? Mulled Cider? Oh, what the heck....how about everything just WHITE?

Remodeling Week #6
Week 6 was kind of boring on the remodel. The crew that was supposed to do the painting was on vacation unbeknownest to the contractor. So not much happened. And, the regular carpenters, Richy and Scott, got delayed. They are usually here every day but ended up taking another job`for the week. But wait!! We do have some exciting news at the end of the BLOG post.
Look! the new cabinets arrived. They are all still in their boxes but can you guess what color they are?? Notice the new arch at the back door too.
New wood for the flooring. It goes under the real floor. It's called 'Luan'. Pretty name for such a common thing.
More cupboards. Dad thought it would be better to put the floor down before all the cupboards arrived but guess they know what they are doing.
LOOK! Maybe it wasn't such a slow week after all. We were just sitting on the porch watching Mom's news and who comes walking down the new steps??? GINGER!! Blind and all. Wonder who taught her to do that??

Remodeling Week #5
Dining El Fresco- and Mom missed it. Dang. Since cooking isn't easy without a kitchen, John offered to bring over his famous family favorites- Ham Balls. Yum. Dad thought it was a real treat compared to eating Chicken Pot Pies on the grill. (Mom will have to have rain check.)
Lots of mudding, taping, sanding, taping, mudding, sanding, mudding, taping, sanding.... get the idea?! What a mess! Fine WHITE dust all over everything!! Yuck. And worse yet- they had to have three fans going to make it dry!
Guess it was worth waiting for. :) Isn't this pretty with the light coming in? Mom likes it! Lots of light! (notice the sky light)
Sharon's new view from her room. A new roof!! Sorry Sharon--No window box :(
Ginger wasn't making any headway going down the new steps so we had to have a new trainer from Wisconsin. She didn't like it. Got kind of grouchy with the new trainer. Growled and hissed.
FINALLY! She did it. Good job Paul. Maybe she just wanted to find her bowl.
